Q:How does hardwood compare to other flooring materials?
A:Other floor covering materials simply can't compare to the natural beauty of hardwood flooring. Hardwood floors outperform and outlast almost any other floor covering material. Hardwood floors are just as easy to care for as any other floor.
Q:Are hardwood floors expensive?
A:Hardwood floors are much like other flooring materials in that there are many different price points. There are inexpensive hardwood floors and there are more costly hardwood floors. However, when you compare the life cycle of hardwood floors versus other floor covering material, then you realize just how inexpensive hardwood floors really are. Most hardwood floors will last a lifetime while the average lifespan of carpet is 7-9 years. So you could replace carpet 3 or 4 times in a 30-year period, while simply maintaining one hardwood floor.
Q:What's the best finish for a hardwood floor?
A:It depends on the manufacturer, for example Bruce makes two different kinds of finishes: the Dura-Luster no-wax urethane finish and Dura-Satin wax finish. Both of these finishes are outstanding, and both perform well in residential settings. The type of finish you choose should reflect how you expect the finish to perform. The Dura-Luster urethane finish consists of multiple coats of urethane cured under ultraviolet light. This produces a no-wax finish that repels most household stains and never requires waxing. This finish is perfect in kitchens and for today's active families. The Dura-Satin wax finish consists of Bruce's famous 13-step penetrating stain and carnauba wax finish. This finish produces a rich, warm patina that almost makes the wood glow. The Dura-Satin finish requires waxing once or twice a year and buffing between waxing.
Q:Are hardwood floors easy to care for?
A:Yes. In fact, hardwood floors are just as easy to care for as any other floor covering material. Normal care such as sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and soil is generally all that is required. For specific care instructions, please refer to our Care and Maintenance section page.
Q:Where can hardwood floors be installed?
A:Hardwood floors can be installed almost anywhere in the home. Solid products can be installed on or above the outside soil line while engineered products can be installed on, above, or below grade, including basements. The only place we do not recommend hardwood flooring is in wet areas of the bath.
Q:Can I install hardwood floors myself?
A:Of course. All it takes is a little planning and a free weekend. Complete installation instructions are available. Installation can be glued-down, nailed-down, or even stapled-down in some instances. Installation materials are available at most major home center stores.
For complex or tricky installations, we recommend you utilize the services of the Renaissance professional installation team, who have been installing wood flooring in Arizona for years.
